The other day when dining at Olive Garden, I realized their suggested tip amounts were based on the total, including tax. Some restaurants base their suggested tip amounts on pre-tax. Which is correct? The Emily Post Institute says you should tip 15-20% on the pre-tax amount, not the total bill.
What about when you are at a buffet? How much should you tip there? Or should you tip anything at all? After all, you are serving yourself. But are you? You should tip 10%. They deserve some thanks since they are removing your plates and taking your drink orders.
