They come from all over the country but have one thing in common – debt. Dozens of people revealed their financial situation for a photography project, with some almost $1million in the red.

This is a snapshot of some of the people, how much debt they have and what the debt is for:

  • August, 27 yrs old, $31,000 credit card debt used to pay for college
  • Katye, 25 yrs old, $130,000 due to medical bills, student debt and parents using her identity
  • Grace, $75,000 due to years of accumulated debt, including car loans and household needs
  • Mike, $160,000 for student loans, bad real estate deal and unemployment
  • Shareen, $10,120.98. Used to be $20,000 but has slowly been paying it off. Debt because of frivolous spending when given a high credit line.

These are just a few of the people they highlight. There are pictures of dozens of every day Americans and hand-written notes telling a little bit about themselves, mainly how much debt they have and why. It is a fascinating look into how much debt the average, everyday American is in and what caused it.
